Iranian security forces have killed six militants and arrested two others during a major operation in the country’s southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan, officials said on Saturday. According to Iranian media reports, the clash took place after security forces intercepted the group in a remote area, leading to an intense exchange of fire. All six militants were killed on the spot, while two were captured alive.
Authorities claimed the slain fighters were linked to Israel and had been trained by the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad. Officials further alleged that the group had infiltrated Iran to carry out acts of sabotage, terrorism, and espionage. Their mission reportedly included targeting a key strategic installation in the eastern region.
The development comes just a day after an armed attack in Iran left five security personnel dead, raising concerns about escalating militant activity in border provinces. Iranian officials described the latest operation as a decisive response to hostile plots against national security.
Sistan-Baluchestan, which borders Pakistan and Afghanistan, has long been a hotspot for militant activity and cross-border infiltration. Tehran has frequently accused foreign intelligence agencies of exploiting the province’s restive environment to destabilize the country.
Security analysts believe the latest incident underscores Iran’s heightened focus on countering external threats, particularly amid tensions with Israel. Officials said further investigations are underway to determine the full network and objectives of the captured militants.
