Fresh concerns over security in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have emerged after terrorists allegedly abducted a police officer along with six security personnel in South Waziristan, while in a separate incident a government school headmaster was kidnapped in Bannu.
According to official and local sources, the first incident occurred in South Waziristan’s Sararogha area, where unidentified armed terrorists reportedly abducted Station House Officer (SHO) Ahmad Shah along with six other police personnel.
Police sources said the officials were performing security duties for a Bomb Disposal Squad in the Bangewala area when they were intercepted and taken hostage by armed men.
Following the incident, security forces and law enforcement agencies launched a search operation in the area. Authorities have cordoned off key routes and intensified efforts to trace the abducted personnel.
District Police Officer Arshad Khan confirmed the incident, stating that heavy police contingents had been deployed and all entry and exit points in the relevant area had been placed under surveillance as part of the ongoing operation.
No group has so far claimed responsibility for the abduction. However, security observers note that terrorist groups operating in the region have previously resorted to kidnappings of security personnel and government officials in an attempt to exert pressure on the state, secure concessions, or facilitate the release of detained associates.
In a separate incident in Bannu, Government High School Sardar Khan Mandiu Headmaster Nisar was reportedly abducted by terrorists, with CCTV footage of the incident later surfacing on social media.
The footage allegedly shows two armed individuals entering the school premises and forcibly taking the headmaster away.
The incident has generated concern among local residents and the education community, particularly as educational institutions and their staff have repeatedly faced threats from terrorist elements seeking to disrupt normal life and undermine public confidence.
Police and security officials are investigating both incidents and have expressed optimism regarding the safe recovery of the abducted individuals.
The back-to-back abductions highlight the continuing security challenges faced by parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where security forces remain engaged in sustained counterterrorism operations against Fitna al-Khwarij and other terrorist elements attempting to destabilize the region.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to pursuing those responsible and ensuring the safe return of all abductees while continuing efforts to eliminate terrorist networks operating in the province.
