The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that the international community has recognized Pakistan’s constructive and facilitative role in the Iran–United States engagement process, reaffirming Islamabad’s continued commitment to promoting regional peace through dialogue and diplomacy.
According to the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tahir Hussain Andrabi, Pakistan welcomes the appreciation expressed by multiple international stakeholders for its constructive diplomatic engagement and mediation efforts aimed at fostering stability in the region.
During the weekly press briefing, the spokesperson highlighted the recent one-day official visit of the President of Iran, Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, to Pakistan on the invitation of the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
The Iranian President held meetings with the President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. In the official bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening Pakistan–Iran relations and expanding cooperation across all areas of mutual interest.
The spokesperson stated that Iran–United States negotiations were held in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, with Pakistan and Qatar participating as mediators.
Pakistan and Qatar were represented at the highest level, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir representing Pakistan in the mediation process.
Multiple key issues were discussed during the talks. Pakistan and Qatar, through their respective technical teams, remain engaged and in contact with both parties to facilitate continued progress and support the next stages of dialogue.
Pakistan has welcomed the recognition and appreciation extended by several countries for its constructive role in this diplomatic process. The spokesperson also acknowledged the Pakistani media for demonstrating professionalism, responsibility, and mature reporting throughout the developments.
The spokesperson further confirmed that for the next phase of engagement, three specialized technical working groups have been constituted:
- A working group on nuclear-related matters
- A working group on sanctions and frozen assets
- A working group on the situation in Lebanon
Pakistan and Qatar’s technical teams will remain in continuous coordination with their counterparts from the United States and Iran to ensure sustained dialogue and facilitate forward movement on these issues.
The spokesperson also referred to a significant meeting held on 21 June between the Foreign Ministers of Pakistan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye. The meeting reviewed the Islamabad MoU and the Bürgenstock negotiations, reflecting coordinated regional engagement on matters of shared concern.
In addition, the Deputy Prime Minister held telephonic discussions with the Foreign Ministers of Saudi Arabia, Italy, Canada, Bahrain, Iran, and other countries, highlighting Pakistan’s continued diplomatic outreach across multiple regions.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also confirmed that Pakistani nationals have been taken hostage off the coast of Somalia. The Government of Pakistan is in close contact with Somali authorities and is actively engaged in efforts to secure the safe recovery of the affected citizens.
Reiterating Pakistan’s foreign policy stance, the spokesperson stated that Pakistan remains firmly committed to playing a constructive and responsible role in promoting peace, stability, and dialogue across the region.
The spokesperson emphasized that Pakistan will continue to contribute actively to diplomatic initiatives aimed at conflict resolution and regional cooperation, while welcoming continued international recognition of its efforts.
