Taliban Facing a New Pressure Point? Freedom Front Claims Wider Reach in Eastern Afghanistan

The Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) has announced the expansion of its operational activities in Afghanistan’s eastern provinces, stating that its guerrilla units have established positions in several areas, particularly in Laghman Province, as part of efforts to increase pressure on the Taliban.

In a statement released by the group, the Afghanistan Freedom Front said that its operational and guerrilla units have been deployed across strategic areas in the eastern region. The group claimed that its fighters, equipped with light and heavy weapons and trained in guerrilla tactics, are preparing and conducting operations targeting Taliban military positions, checkpoints, gatherings, and mobile convoys.

The statement further claimed that the increased deployment of fighters in Laghman, Nangarhar, and Nuristan provinces has expanded the group’s operational reach in eastern Afghanistan. According to the announcement, targeted operations against Taliban positions have begun in several districts of these provinces.

The Afghanistan Freedom Front stated that its activities are focused on challenging Taliban control and increasing operational pressure in areas where it claims to have established a presence. The group also said it is developing new operational plans based on what it described as changing ground conditions.

The statement also acknowledged what the group described as support and cooperation from Afghan citizens, particularly in the form of information sharing, public awareness, and local assistance. The AFF said that such cooperation has contributed to its understanding of developments on the ground and the advancement of its activities.

The Afghanistan Freedom Front described itself as a movement emerging from Afghan society and claimed to represent the interests of the Afghan people. The group emphasized that public trust and participation remain central to its efforts and expressed appreciation to individuals supporting its cause.

The announcement comes amid continued security and political challenges in Afghanistan, where armed groups and competing actors continue to shape the country’s security landscape.
