Pakistan has strongly condemned the attack by Yemen’s Houthi group on a Saudi oil tanker and the growing threats to commercial shipping in the Red Sea, reaffirming its continued support for the sovereignty, territorial integrity, security, and stability of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
During his weekly media briefing, Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi stated that Pakistan views attacks targeting Saudi Arabia and threats to international maritime routes with serious concern, emphasizing that such developments could further aggravate an already fragile regional security environment.
The spokesperson recalled that a similar attack had also taken place the previous week, following which the Prime Minister of Pakistan had immediately condemned the incident and expressed complete solidarity with Saudi Arabia.
He stated that attacks against Saudi Arabia by armed groups in Yemen have the potential to escalate tensions across the region and called upon all parties to exercise maximum restraint, avoid actions that could further destabilize the situation, and pursue diplomatic avenues for the peaceful resolution of disputes.
Reiterating Pakistan’s principled position, Andrabi emphasized that regional peace and stability require respect for sovereignty, international law, and peaceful mechanisms for addressing conflicts.
He highlighted Pakistan’s continued diplomatic engagement with regional and international partners aimed at reducing tensions and promoting dialogue.
The spokesperson informed that Iranian Interior Minister Iskandar Momani recently visited Pakistan, during which he held meetings with the Prime Minister, Field Marshal, Federal Interior Minister, and other senior Pakistani leadership.
During these engagements, discussions focused on regional security developments, bilateral relations, and efforts aimed at reducing tensions and enhancing cooperation between the two countries. Providing details of Pakistan’s recent diplomatic outreach, Andrabi stated that the Foreign Ministers of Pakistan and Kuwait held consultations on 18 July regarding the evolving regional situation.
He further informed that on the sidelines of the ASEAN Regional Forum in Manila, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar held separate meetings with the Foreign Ministers of Egypt, Oman, the Philippines, Russia, and Bangladesh.
During his meeting with the Egyptian Foreign Minister, both sides emphasized the importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states and reaffirmed the need for regional cooperation.
The spokesperson noted that the Omani Foreign Minister appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions and promoting peace and stability in the region. In his meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, discussions covered various aspects of bilateral relations, including opportunities to further expand mutual cooperation in areas of shared interest.
Andrabi added that Ishaq Dar also held discussions with the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh and the newly elected President of the United Nations General Assembly, Khalilur Rahman, focusing on matters of mutual interest and international cooperation.
The Foreign Office spokesperson stated that Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar represented Pakistan at the 34th ASEAN Regional Forum meeting held in Manila.
He highlighted that Pakistan has been a member of the ASEAN Regional Forum since 2004 and continues to actively participate in regional dialogue mechanisms aimed at strengthening peace, security, and cooperation.
The spokesperson further announced that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is scheduled to arrive in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers’ meeting.
During his visit, Ishaq Dar is expected to hold meetings with the President of Kyrgyzstan as well as his counterparts from SCO member states to discuss regional developments, cooperation, and shared challenges.
Highlighting another important diplomatic engagement, Andrabi stated that Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand recently visited Pakistan, marking the first visit by a Canadian Foreign Minister to the country in nearly two decades. During the visit, the Canadian Foreign Minister met with the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, Field Marshal, and other senior Pakistani officials.
The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations, expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest, and enhancing engagement between Pakistan and Canada.
The Foreign Office reaffirmed that Pakistan remains committed to promoting peace, stability, and constructive diplomatic engagement at regional and international forums. Pakistan emphasized that sustained dialogue, respect for sovereignty, and collective efforts remain essential for addressing emerging security challenges and ensuring long-term stability in the region.
