Pakistan and Sudan have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors, including internal security, countering cybercrime, police training, institutional development and civil registration, with both countries deciding to sign a formal agreement on cybercrime cooperation soon.
The understanding was reached during delegation-level talks between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry and Sudanese Interior Minister Lt. Gen. Babiker Samra Mustafa Ali in Islamabad.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to expand institutional collaboration, improve law enforcement capabilities and benefit from each other’s expertise in security and internal affairs.
Naqvi offered Pakistan’s full support for peace and reconstruction efforts in Sudan, emphasizing the role of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) in strengthening the country’s civil registration infrastructure.
He said NADRA had so far facilitated the issuance of 36 million citizenship cards, nine million national identity cards, 18 million birth certificates and 500,000 death certificates in Sudan.
The interior minister assured the visiting delegation that Pakistan would continue providing technical assistance and cooperation to Sudan in civil registration and the further development of NADRA-supported systems.
Visa Facilitation and Police Training
Addressing issues raised by his Sudanese counterpart, Naqvi directed authorities to take immediate steps to resolve visa-related difficulties faced by Sudanese women married to Pakistani nationals and residing in Pakistan.
He also offered professional training opportunities for Sudanese police officers, saying Pakistan was ready to share its law enforcement expertise and institutional experience.
Naqvi further assured the visiting minister that Sudanese nationals could benefit from quality medical facilities in Pakistan and that all possible facilitation would be extended to them in the health sector.
Sudan Seeks Pakistan’s Cybersecurity Expertise
Sudanese Interior Minister Lt. Gen. Babiker Samra Mustafa Ali expressed his country’s interest in benefiting from Pakistan’s experience, particularly in combating cybercrime and strengthening law enforcement institutions.
Describing Pakistan as a brotherly country, he said Sudan attached great importance to cooperation with Pakistan across different sectors.
He also thanked the Pakistani government and the interior minister for their continued assistance and support.
Senior officials from Pakistan’s interior and law enforcement institutions, including the federal interior secretary, NADRA chairman, directors general of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) and National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), as well as senior police and security officials, attended the meeting.
The proposed cybercrime agreement and broader institutional cooperation are expected to provide a framework for expanding collaboration between the two countries in addressing emerging security challenges.
