The National Resistance Front (NRF) has claimed responsibility for an attack on a Taliban checkpoint in Afghanistan’s northeastern Badakhshan province, saying its fighters killed one Taliban official, wounded two others and destroyed the checkpoint during the operation.
In a statement, the NRF said the attack targeted a Taliban security post in the Kran wa Munjan district of Badakhshan. According to the group, its fighters carried out the operation successfully before withdrawing from the area after inflicting casualties and destroying the checkpoint.
The anti-Taliban group alleged that one Taliban official was killed while two other Taliban members sustained injuries during the assault. The claims have not been independently verified, and there was no immediate confirmation from the Taliban authorities regarding the reported attack or the alleged casualties.
The NRF reiterated that it would continue what it described as targeted military operations in different parts of Afghanistan, saying its objective is to end Taliban rule and secure what it called the liberation of the country and its people.
Badakhshan has witnessed an increase in reported anti-Taliban activities in recent weeks, with armed opposition groups claiming a series of attacks on Taliban positions across the province. The mountainous region has increasingly featured in reports of clashes between Taliban forces and resistance groups, although independent verification remains difficult due to limited access and media restrictions in Afghanistan.
The latest claim comes amid growing reports of armed resistance in northern Afghanistan, where opposition groups have sought to challenge Taliban control through sporadic attacks on security installations and personnel. The Taliban, meanwhile, continue to maintain that they remain in control of the country’s security situation despite recurring claims by resistance factions.
