A jirga of local religious scholars and community representatives was held in Kharkamar, a locality of Datta Khel tehsil in North Waziristan, with discussions focusing on the prevailing security situation, protection of public life and property, and measures to sustain peace in the area.
The jirga brought together representatives of the local community to deliberate collectively on the security challenges facing the region and the difficulties confronting residents amid the continuing threat of terrorism.
Participants stressed that maintaining peace requires stronger coordination and cooperation among local residents, tribal elders, religious scholars and security forces. The jirga emphasized that community cooperation remains essential to preventing terrorists from exploiting local vulnerabilities and disrupting normal life.
The participants also agreed on the need to strengthen mutual trust between the local population and security forces so that the designs of terrorists seeking to undermine peace could be thwarted.
Religious scholars and community representatives expressed their resolve to continue cooperating with security forces in counterterrorism efforts and to encourage residents to play a responsible role in maintaining law and order.
The jirga also highlighted the importance of collective vigilance and timely communication in countering terrorist activity. Stronger links between communities and security forces can help identify threats, prevent terrorist networks from gaining local support and facilitate timely action against those attempting to destabilize the area.
North Waziristan has remained a key focus of Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts, with security forces conducting operations to dismantle terrorist networks and prevent attacks. Local support and community engagement remain an important component of these efforts, particularly in areas that have suffered from terrorism and attempts to disrupt the return of lasting peace.
The Kharkamar jirga therefore reflected a broader local resolve that peace cannot be secured through security measures alone, but requires sustained cooperation between the population and those working to protect it, while denying terrorists the space and support they need to operate.
