Kohat Peace Agreement Brings Stability and Progress to Kurram District

Kohat Peace Agreement, Kurram, Parachinar

The Kohat Peace Agreement has become a guarantor of peace, prosperity, development, and lasting stability for the people of Kurram District. The agreement has paved the way for long-term peace and development in the once conflict-ridden Kurram region.

In November 2024, over 200 vehicles heading to Parachinar were attacked by terrorists, resulting in the deaths of 49 civilians and traders. An attack on the Baggan Bazaar also caused widespread destruction.

In the aftermath of this tragic incident, the government, security agencies, and local leaders quickly initiated peace efforts through jirgas and negotiations, which culminated in the signing of the Kohat Peace Agreement. Following the agreement’s implementation, significant successes were achieved.

With the cooperation of the local population and elders, 547 heavy weapons were voluntarily surrendered. To secure the Thall-Parachinar road, 120 special security posts were established, and a dedicated security force was deployed to promote free movement and trade along the route.

Additionally, the Kurram Police and forces received modern training, and sports grounds were built for the youth. Street lighting and solarization projects were completed in multiple areas, and 102 new shops were constructed in Baggan Bazaar and handed over to the shopkeepers.

On August 11, 2025, a joint jirga meeting took place, where Lower Kurram elders attended a special invitation from the elders of Parachinar. The jirga reaffirmed its commitment to peace.

Local leader Malik Saleem assured, “I guarantee that lasting peace will prevail in Kurram; peace brings life, light, and education.”

Former Senator Sajad Mian stated, “We have established excellent peace here, and we must engage with the government on every matter.”

The local elders and people emphasized that they will never allow the disruptive plans of troublemakers to succeed. The restoration of peace in Kurram is opening new paths for development and prosperity, and it won’t be long before Kurram becomes a major hub for trade, tourism, and tolerance.
