Khawarij Quadcopter Hits Mosque in Central Kurram Amid Rising Attacks in KP

A quadcopter strike carried out by Khawarij targeted a mosque in Satar Mundan village, located in Central Kurram, during the night of 5 May 2026, causing significant damage to the mosque structure as well as nearby residential houses and a madrassa.

According to preliminary local reports, the attack struck the vicinity of the mosque at night, triggering panic among residents and raising fresh concerns over the increasing use of improvised aerial attacks against civilian and religious sites in the region. While details regarding casualties are still being verified, eyewitnesses confirmed that portions of the mosque building, adjoining madrassa facilities, and surrounding homes sustained visible structural damage.

The incident marks the fifth reported attack on a mosque in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa within the last two weeks, underscoring a deeply alarming pattern of violence directed at places of worship and civilian communities. The repeated targeting of religious institutions has intensified fear among residents and prompted calls for urgent security measures to protect vulnerable areas.

Community elders and local residents strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a cowardly assault on innocent worshippers and sacred religious spaces. They emphasized that mosques and educational institutions must remain protected under all circumstances and warned that continued attacks on civilian infrastructure threaten regional peace and stability.

Security sources stated that authorities have initiated an assessment of the damage and are gathering evidence regarding the nature and origin of the quadcopter strike. Investigations are reportedly underway to determine those responsible and to evaluate broader security implications linked to the recent surge in attacks across the province.

Local representatives and residents have urged the government and law enforcement agencies to enhance surveillance, strengthen counterterrorism measures, and ensure immediate protection for religious sites, educational institutions, and populated civilian areas in Kurram and other sensitive districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The attack has once again highlighted the evolving tactics being employed by militant elements in the region, particularly the reported use of quadcopters and other unmanned devices to target civilian locations. Analysts warn that such methods pose growing security challenges and require coordinated intelligence-based responses.

Residents of Satar Mundan appealed for immediate humanitarian assistance and reconstruction support for the affected families and damaged structures. They also called upon national leaders, religious scholars, and civil society organizations to collectively condemn attacks on mosques and stand in solidarity with affected communities.
