Chief Minister of Balochistan, Mir Sarfraz Bugti, announced that intelligence agencies successfully thwarted a major terror plot by arresting a female suicide bomber allegedly assigned to carry out an attack in Islamabad.
Speaking during a press conference in Quetta alongside the detained woman, the Chief Minister stated that the suspect had reportedly been prepared and directed for a suicide mission targeting the federal capital. He credited intelligence agencies for acting swiftly and preventing what he described as a potentially devastating act of terrorism.
“Our intelligence agencies saved Pakistan from a major tragedy through timely action,” Mir Sarfraz Bugti said. “The woman sitting beside us was allegedly on a suicide mission and had been assigned a target in Islamabad. The plot was neutralized before it could be executed.”
The Chief Minister strongly condemned the exploitation of women and young girls by extremist networks, stating that such actions were entirely inconsistent with Baloch traditions and societal values. He emphasized that the people of Balochistan believe in education, dignity, and empowerment for women, while extremist elements seek to manipulate vulnerable individuals for violent agendas.
“We want to educate our daughters, while terrorists are forcing suicide jackets onto them,” he said. “This has nothing to do with Baloch culture or traditions.”
According to the Chief Minister, the detained woman had allegedly been subjected to coercion and threats by those involved in the network. He claimed that she was warned her father would be killed if she refused to carry out the suicide attack.
Mir Sarfraz Bugti further stated that extremist groups are increasingly exploiting women and young girls to advance their objectives and satisfy what he referred to as the interests of “international handlers.” He described the tactic as a deeply disturbing trend aimed at manipulating vulnerable individuals through fear and intimidation.
Officials confirmed that the woman would be handed back to her family in a dignified and lawful manner, underscoring the government’s position that victims of coercion should be treated with sensitivity and care.
The Chief Minister also praised the professionalism and vigilance of Pakistan’s intelligence agencies, saying their coordinated and timely intervention prevented significant loss of life and ensured public safety.
Security analysts note that the incident highlights evolving tactics employed by extremist organizations, including attempts to recruit or coerce women into carrying out attacks. Experts warn that such methods reflect broader efforts by violent networks to evade security scrutiny and generate psychological impact.
Authorities reiterated that counterterrorism operations and intelligence-based actions would continue across the country to dismantle extremist networks and prevent threats to national security.
The government and security institutions reaffirmed their commitment to protecting civilians, safeguarding national stability, and preventing the exploitation of vulnerable individuals by violent extremist groups.
