SULAYMANIYAH: Security forces in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region have arrested more than 20 Daesh terrorists during a major 96-hour operation targeting the group’s clandestine networks, security authorities said.
The operation was conducted with the cooperation of the security directorates of Sulaymaniyah and Halabja, focusing on suspected Daesh activity and covert cells operating in the region.
According to the authorities, security personnel dismantled two armed Daesh cells and detained more than 20 terrorists who had allegedly been operating secretly across the area.
The four-day operation involved intelligence-led raids and coordinated security measures aimed at identifying and disrupting Daesh networks before they could carry out attacks or reorganize their presence.
The arrests mark a significant security operation against Daesh remnants in the Kurdistan Region, where security agencies have continued monitoring suspected extremist networks despite the group losing much of its territorial control in Iraq.
Authorities are expected to investigate the detainees to determine their roles within the two armed cells and identify any additional members or support networks linked to them.
