Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir held a high-level meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara, where the two sides discussed expanding Pakistan-Türkiye defence cooperation, strengthening collaboration in the defence industry, regional security, the evolving situation in the Middle East, and ways to further deepen the longstanding strategic partnership between the two brotherly nations.
According to the Turkish Presidency, the meeting took place at Ankara Airport shortly before President Erdogan departed on an official visit to Qatar. The talks were held behind closed doors and were attended by Türkiye’s Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, Chief of the Turkish General Staff General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu, and Director of the National Intelligence Organization (MIT), Ibrahim Kalın.
While neither side released detailed readouts of the discussions, diplomatic and defence circles said the meeting focused on enhancing bilateral defence ties, expanding cooperation in defence production, addressing regional security challenges, reviewing the latest developments in the Middle East, and exploring new avenues for broadening strategic collaboration between Islamabad and Ankara.
The meeting comes at a time when Pakistan and Türkiye continue to deepen their defence relationship through joint military exercises, defence manufacturing, drone technology, naval cooperation, professional military education, and enhanced institutional coordination. Defence cooperation has increasingly emerged as one of the strongest pillars of the comprehensive partnership between the two countries.
The engagement also reflects the regular high-level exchanges between the military and political leadership of both countries, reinforcing their shared commitment to promoting regional peace, stability, and mutual security interests through closer strategic coordination.
A day earlier, Field Marshal Asim Munir met Chief of the Turkish General Staff General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu during his official visit to Türkiye. During the visit, he was conferred one of Türkiye’s highest military honours in recognition of his contributions to strengthening defence relations and military cooperation between the two countries. The two military leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further expanding professional collaboration and institutional defence ties.
Observers believe the latest meeting between President Erdogan and Field Marshal Asim Munir underscores the growing strategic importance both Islamabad and Ankara attach to their longstanding brotherly relationship. They say the high-level engagement reflects a shared vision to further strengthen defence cooperation while promoting peace, security, and stability across the wider region amid an evolving geopolitical environment.
