Terrorists targeted the home of a local resident with an improvised explosive device (IED) in Khar after he reportedly refused to comply with an extortion demand, in another attempt to intimidate civilians and impose a coercive system of terror in the area.
According to police, terrorists had demanded extortion money from Ehsanullah, a resident of Haji Long Wali Bagh in Khar. After he refused to pay the demanded amount, the terrorists targeted his residence with an IED.
The explosion damaged the gate of Ehsanullah’s house, but no casualties were reported.
The attack highlights how terrorists continue to use extortion as a means of financing their activities while attempting to intimidate residents into submitting to their demands. Those who refuse to cooperate or provide financial support can become targets of attacks intended to spread fear among the wider community.
Following the explosion, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the terrorists involved in the attack and determine whether their facilitators or accomplices were present in the vicinity.
The incident also underscores the broader security challenge posed by terrorist networks in Bajaur, where attacks on civilians, extortion attempts and intimidation are used alongside direct attacks on security and law-enforcement personnel.
Security forces are continuing search and clearance efforts in the area as part of measures to prevent further terrorist attacks and disrupt networks involved in extortion and violence against local residents.
