COAS General Asim Munir Assumes Full Responsibility for Treatment of Pakistani Children Denied Heart Surgery by India

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir has assumed full responsibility for the medical treatment of two Pakistani children suffering from congenital heart conditions who were abruptly expelled from India. On the directions of the COAS, their treatment has commenced at the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC).

The children, nine-year-old Abdullah and seven-year-old Minsa, were scheduled to undergo cardiac surgery in India when the Indian authorities ordered their family to leave the country within 48 hours on April 24, reportedly due to rising hostilities towards Pakistan. The family, hailing from Hyderabad, had travelled to India seeking urgent medical intervention.

In the face of India’s inhumane treatment, General Asim Munir intervened and directed that the children be provided the best possible care at AFIC. According to renowned cardiologist Dr. Mehboob Sultan, both children are being treated for congenital heart defects and will undergo staged surgical procedures under the supervision of top specialists.

Brigadier Dr. Khurram Akhtar affirmed that AFIC is fully equipped to manage complex cardiac cases and is delivering comprehensive care. The children’s father, Shahid Ahmed, expressed deep gratitude to the Army Chief for the prompt and advanced treatment initiated upon their return. “The care my children are receiving here has far exceeded our expectations,” he remarked.

The family condemned the Indian government’s conduct, calling it a cruel and politically motivated act that targeted innocent children in need of urgent medical care. They lauded the Pakistan Army for stepping in with compassion and professionalism at a time of distress.
