Pakistan has cautioned the United Nations Security Council about a credible threat of Indian military action, citing intelligence reports that point to a heightened risk of aggression. The Foreign Office has urged the international community to take immediate notice and play its role in averting a new crisis in South Asia.
Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan, addressing a media briefing, confirmed that Islamabad has shared with the Security Council alarming intelligence suggesting that India may be preparing for a possible military operation against Pakistan. “The threat is real, and we have informed the Council accordingly,” he said.
The warning came during a closed-door consultation of the Security Council convened to review the deteriorating situation between Pakistan and India. According to the Foreign Office, member states expressed deep concern over the rising tensions and called for urgent de-escalation. Many underscored the imperative of restraint and reiterated the need for dialogue and diplomacy as the only viable path to peace.
Several members of the Council reportedly pointed to the Kashmir dispute as the root cause of instability in the region, urging a resolution in line with Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
Pakistan, during the session, termed India’s actions of April 23 and its increasingly aggressive posture as dangerous provocations. It also conveyed strong reservations over India’s unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, warning that any move to obstruct river flows would amount to an act of war.
Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, rejected Indian allegations regarding the Pahalgam incident as unfounded and politically motivated. He cautioned that India’s disinformation campaign and militaristic approach posed a serious threat to regional peace.
The spokesperson reaffirmed that while Pakistan does not seek confrontation, it remains fully prepared to defend its sovereignty. “Pakistan will exercise its inherent right to self-defence if compelled,” he said.
Pakistan also welcomed the offer of mediation by the UN Secretary-General and appreciated the Security Council’s active engagement, reiterating its commitment to regional peace and stability.
