Pakistan Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Wednesday briefed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on national security measures for Eid and the ongoing repatriation of Afghan refugees, as the government moves forward with its deportation plan.
The meeting was focused on enforcing measures following the deadline of the deadline for Afghan refugees to leave Pakistan. Officials reiterated that legal action would be taken against those staying in violation of government policies. Senior leadership has consistently emphasized its resolve to proceed with deportations, a stance reaffirmed during the discussion between Sharif and Naqvi.
The prime minister commended security agencies for maintaining law and order, though his position on the deportation of Afghan Citizen Card (ACC) holders remained unspecified. The initial deadline of March 31 for Afghan refugee repatriation was postponed due to Eid al-Fitr, and officials have now confirmed that it has been extended to early next week.
According to estimates by the United Nations, around 800,000 ACC holders are set to be deported once the revised deadline expires.
