Lakki Marwat

Police foiled a suspected terrorist plot at Gandi Chowk in Lakki Marwat after eliminating two suspected khwarij, including a suicide bomber, during an exchange of fire, while a third suspect escaped despite being injured.

According to police, personnel rushed to the location after receiving information about a suspicious vehicle. As officers approached the vehicle, the suspects opened fire, prompting an immediate retaliatory response in which two of them were eliminated.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of weapons, a flag bearing the insignia of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), women’s burqas and other suspicious items. The recovery of the clothing, along with the other materials, has raised questions about the nature of the suspected terrorist plan and the intended use of the vehicle.

Police are investigating the recovered items to establish the suspects’ identities, possible affiliations and intended target. The injured suspect who escaped during the exchange of fire is being pursued, while a search operation is underway in the surrounding area to track him down and rule out the presence of other accomplices.

Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa commended the personnel for their timely response and action, praising their alertness in preventing a potential security threat.

The incident highlights the continuing security challenges in Lakki Marwat and adjoining districts of southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where police and security forces have repeatedly targeted terrorist networks through intelligence-led operations and security actions.
