Four Members of Same Family Martyred, Three Injured in Khawarij Attack in South Waziristan Lower

Four members of the Suleman Khel tribe, including children, were martyred and three others injured when Khawarij opened fire and launched mortar rounds towards civilians in the Toi Khala area of South Waziristan Lower during a security operation.

According to details, security forces launched an intelligence-based operation against Khawarij in the area on October 15. During the operation, the Khawarij, finding themselves under pressure, allegedly resorted to firing and mortar attacks on the civilian population in an attempt to divert the attention of security personnel, provoke public anger against the military and create an opportunity to escape.

The attack claimed the lives of four members of a single Suleman Khel family, including children, while three others sustained injuries. The injured were immediately shifted to hospital for medical treatment.

The incident highlights the grave threat posed to civilian lives by violence in areas affected by counterterrorism operations and the devastating consequences for families caught in the crossfire.

Security forces were conducting an intelligence-based operation against Khawarij in Toi Khala when the group allegedly directed gunfire and mortar rounds towards populated areas. According to the available details, the tactic was intended to divert security forces’ attention, create public resentment against the military and enable Khawarij to escape the operation.

The resulting violence devastated a local family, leaving four people dead and three injured. The inclusion of children among those killed makes the incident particularly tragic and underscores the vulnerability of civilians living in areas affected by armed violence. The injured were immediately transported to hospital, while the incident has renewed concerns over the safety of residents during security operations.

The deaths in Toi Khala underscore the risks faced by ordinary citizens in areas where security forces are engaged in counterterrorism operations. Gunfire and mortar attacks in populated areas can have devastating consequences, particularly for children and families who have no involvement in armed confrontations. The use of civilian areas to divert security forces’ attention, as alleged in this incident, further endangers the lives of local residents. The incident reinforces the need to prioritise civilian protection, provide timely medical assistance to the injured and ensure that those responsible for violence against innocent people are held accountable.

The incident also raises questions about the public response of political and social groups to violence attributed to Khawarij. The original account calls upon individuals and groups associated with the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to clarify their positions on attacks against civilians and condemn violence unequivocally.

Public condemnation of attacks on innocent people is essential to strengthening a collective stance against terrorism. At the same time, allegations of support or facilitation must be assessed on the basis of credible evidence rather than assumptions about entire political movements or their supporters.
