A coordinated attack attempt by Fitna al-Khwarij against a joint police and security forces convoy was foiled in Dir, with 15 attackers eliminated and several others reportedly wounded in the ensuing response.
According to details, the joint convoy was travelling towards the Dobando check post when Khwarij attempted to launch an attack near the village of Barikot.
The attackers tried to target the convoy as it passed through the area, but the assault was effectively thwarted by the personnel accompanying the convoy. The Khwarij then attempted to flee the scene.
Police and security forces immediately mounted an effective retaliatory action, pursuing the attackers and neutralizing 15 of them at the site. Several others were also reported to have sustained injuries during the exchange.
The incident comes amid heightened security activity in Dir, where terrorist elements have recently attempted to target police positions and security personnel moving towards vulnerable areas. The latest development highlights the continuing attempts by Fitna al-Khwarij to exploit the area’s difficult terrain and attack law-enforcement movements.
Following the engagement, security forces launched further clearance and search operations in the surrounding area to track down any remaining attackers, secure the route and prevent the regrouping of terrorist elements.
The operation also underscores the importance of coordinated movement between police and security forces in counterterrorism operations, particularly in areas facing renewed attempts by Khwarij to disrupt local security.
With the attack attempt decisively foiled and 15 attackers eliminated, the latest operation has dealt another significant blow to Fitna al-Khwarij’s efforts to target joint security deployments in Dir.
