A senior police officer was martyred after terrorists opened fire on a police vehicle in Balochistan’s Barkhan district on Monday, officials said.

According to police, the attack took place near Khatta Check Post, where unidentified terrorists ambushed a police vehicle carrying Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Murid Bugti.

The heavy gunfire critically injured the senior officer, who embraced martyrdom during the attack.

Police officials confirmed that a large-scale search and pursuit operation has been launched immediately after the incident. Heavy contingents of police, supported by other law enforcement agencies, have been deployed to the area to trace and apprehend the attackers.

Authorities said the area has been cordoned off while security forces are conducting search operations in surrounding localities to prevent the assailants from escaping.

The attack comes amid ongoing counterterrorism operations across Balochistan, where security forces and law enforcement agencies have intensified intelligence-based operations against terrorist networks attempting to destabilize the province.

Further investigation into the attack is underway, while authorities have vowed to bring those responsible to justice.
