Security forces foiled a major terrorist plot in Balochistan’s Panjgur district after successfully locating and neutralizing an improvised explosive device (IED) allegedly planted to target civilians, police said.
Acting on credible intelligence, security forces swiftly launched an operation in the Bugti Chowk area, where a suspicious explosive device had reportedly been concealed. A bomb disposal team was immediately deployed to the scene and safely defused the IED before it could detonate.
According to police, the explosive device had been planted with the intention of causing maximum casualties among civilians passing through the busy intersection. The timely action by security personnel averted what could have been a devastating terrorist incident.
Following the operation, security forces cordoned off the area and initiated a comprehensive search and clearance operation to ensure no additional explosives or terrorist hideouts remained in the vicinity. Authorities said investigations are also underway to identify those responsible for planting the device and determine whether the plot was linked to a broader terrorist network operating in the region.
Security officials have reiterated that terrorist groups continue to target public places and civilian gatherings in an attempt to spread fear and undermine peace in Balochistan. They emphasized that intelligence-based operations and preventive security measures remain underway across sensitive districts to thwart such threats before they can be executed.
The latest recovery comes amid an ongoing counterterrorism campaign across Balochistan, during which security forces have intensified intelligence-led operations, dismantled militant hideouts and recovered large quantities of explosives, weapons and bomb-making material in an effort to deny terrorist groups the ability to carry out attacks against civilians and security personnel alike.
