Pakistan has issued a strong warning over the continued use of Afghan territory for terrorist attacks against its citizens and security personnel, declaring that further cross-border terrorism cannot be tolerated and that necessary measures will be taken to safeguard national security.
Speaking during a weekly media briefing in Islamabad, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said Pakistan had been compelled to take decisive steps due to the persistent threat posed by terrorist groups operating from across the border.
He noted that Pakistan remains among the countries most severely affected by terrorism, having lost thousands of civilians and security personnel in terrorist attacks over the years.
According to the spokesperson, Pakistani security forces continue to face terrorism that is planned, financed, and facilitated from across the border. He stressed that no responsible state can remain silent when its sovereignty is challenged and its citizens are targeted by terrorist violence.
Tahir Andrabi stated that the continuation of terrorist attacks originating from Afghanistan had forced Pakistan to adopt necessary security measures along the border to protect its national interests and ensure the safety of its people.
He urged Afghan authorities to fulfill their responsibility by ensuring that Afghan territory is not used by terrorist organizations to carry out attacks against Pakistan.
At the same time, the spokesperson emphasized that Pakistan remains committed to dialogue and diplomacy as the preferred means of resolving issues. He said the people of Pakistan and Afghanistan share deep religious, historical, cultural, and linguistic ties, and that Islamabad continues to seek friendly and constructive relations with Kabul while keeping channels of communication open.
Addressing regional issues, Andrabi also expressed concern over the condition of Muslims and other minority communities in India. He said Pakistan remains engaged with the European Union and other international bodies on human rights matters and has consistently highlighted concerns regarding alleged human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir during diplomatic engagements.
The statement comes amid growing regional concerns regarding terrorist networks operating from Afghan territory. Pakistani officials have repeatedly called for verifiable action against terrorist groups, including Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other organizations accused of using Afghan soil to plan and facilitate attacks inside Pakistan.
Recent security assessments and analyses have also highlighted concerns about the continued presence of terrorist infrastructure in Afghanistan, alleged cooperation among various terrorist groups, and the broader regional implications of cross-border terrorism. Separately, international scrutiny of the Taliban administration has intensified following reports of arbitrary detentions, alleged torture of prisoners, forced confessions, and restrictions on access to information regarding corporal punishments carried out under the Taliban’s judicial system.
Against this backdrop, Pakistan maintains that lasting regional stability depends on concrete and verifiable measures to deny terrorist organizations safe havens and operational space anywhere in the region.
