Security forces conducted a targeted intelligence-based operation in the Baka Khel area of Bannu, resulting in the elimination of a key commander of the banned organization Ittehad-ul-Mujahideen, according to official sources and group-linked statements.
During the operation, commander Shahid alias “Commando”, identified as a key operative within the Khawarij network, was neutralized. The banned Ittehad-ul-Mujahideen has reportedly confirmed the death of its commander Shahid, also known as “Commando,” acknowledging his role within the organization’s structure.
Sources indicate that the deceased Khawarij commander was actively involved in operational facilitation, including participation in the group’s propaganda and social media network, as well as alleged involvement in its coordination framework in the Bannu region.
Security sources further stated that multiple Khawarij elements were injured during the course of the operation. The exact number and condition of the injured individuals have not yet been independently verified. Following the engagement, security forces conducted a comprehensive clearance operation in the surrounding area to ensure there was no remaining threat to civilians or law enforcement personnel.
According to security officials, the operation in Baka Khel was carried out on precise intelligence inputs as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle Khawarij networks operating in the region. Authorities emphasized that intelligence-based operations are designed to target high-value individuals involved in planning, coordination, recruitment, and propaganda, while minimizing any risk to civilian populations.
Security analysts note that commanders within Khawarij groups often play a central role in maintaining communication channels, directing operational activities, and sustaining propaganda campaigns aimed at recruitment and influence. Officials stated that the elimination of such individuals significantly disrupts organizational structure and reduces the operational capability of banned networks.
They further highlighted the increasing use of digital platforms by Khawarij elements for recruitment, coordination, and dissemination of propaganda, making network disruption a key priority in counterterrorism efforts.
Security forces reiterated their commitment to continuing intelligence-based operations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to eliminate Khawarij threats and restore lasting peace and stability in the region. Officials stated that coordinated operations involving intelligence agencies and law enforcement units remain ongoing to prevent regrouping and reactivation of banned elements.
The targeted operation in Baka Khel, Bannu, which resulted in the elimination of commander Shahid alias “Commando,” represents another development in ongoing counterterrorism efforts against Khawarij networks. Security officials emphasized that such operations are part of a broader national strategy to safeguard civilians, strengthen state authority, and ensure that peace and stability are maintained across the region.
