Tribal anger against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has intensified in the Kukikhel tribe of Khyber District, with tribal and social leader Haji Nawab Afridi strongly criticizing the provincial government over unresolved public issues.
Speaking to the media, Haji Nawab Afridi said the Kukikhel tribe had supported So8hail Afridi and helped him rise to power as their representative, but the same people were now being pushed into deprivation, darkness, and neglect.
He said residents of Shah Gai, Ali Masjid, and Rekalay had repeatedly approached the Chief Minister House seeking new electricity lines, development schemes, and basic facilities, but were met only with false promises and assurances.
He questioned how a chief minister could fail to provide relief even to the people of his own constituency while residents continued to suffer from severe load-shedding and a deteriorating electricity system.
Haji Nawab Afridi further said electricity in areas such as Ali Masjid and Shah Gai disappears for weeks even after minor windstorms, while the government and relevant authorities remain indifferent to public suffering.
He warned that the Kukikhel tribe would no longer remain silent and accused the chief minister of forgetting his own people after assuming power.
“If he cannot fulfill the legitimate demands of the Kukikhel tribe, then he has no right to come back to Jamrud, Ali Masjid, and Shah Gai to seek votes in the future,” he said, adding that the public was fed up with hollow slogans and broken promises.
He added that the tribe had expected development, electricity, and basic facilities from their elected representative, but people now felt betrayed. He warned that if immediate action was not taken, a protest movement would be launched, for which the government would be held responsible.
