Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s continued commitment to global peace and stability, saying the country will keep supporting United Nations peacekeeping missions across the world.
In a special message issued on the occasion of the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers, observed on May 29, 2026, the prime minister said Pakistan joins the international community in paying tribute to the brave peacekeepers serving under the UN flag in conflict-affected regions worldwide.
He said the day is observed to honor the sacrifices and services of military, police, and civilian personnel who work tirelessly to ensure peace, security, and the protection of humanity in war-hit areas around the globe.
Referring to this year’s theme, “Invest in Peace,” Shehbaz Sharif said it underlines the importance of sustainable peace, protection of human lives, and strong political and financial backing for peacekeeping missions.
The prime minister also recalled that the day marks the anniversary of the first United Nations peace mission launched in Palestine in 1948. He noted that more than two million men and women have served in over 70 UN peacekeeping missions worldwide so far.
Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan remains one of the oldest and largest contributors to UN peacekeeping operations. Since 1960, Pakistan has taken part in more than 48 peace missions with over 235,000 personnel, including more than 500 women peacekeepers.
He paid tribute to Pakistani martyrs and serving personnel for their professionalism, courage, and dedication in promoting peace, stability, and the protection of humanity in different parts of the world.
The prime minister reiterated Pakistan’s firm resolve to continue supporting United Nations peace missions for the promotion of global peace, stability, and multilateral diplomacy
