In a significant intelligence-led breakthrough, law enforcement agencies have arrested a highly wanted terrorist associated with the banned Sindhudesh Revolutionary Army (SRA) during a joint operation conducted by Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Police.
According to official sources, the suspect identified as Abdul Jabbar Sarki, son of Ghulam Rasool, was apprehended at the Rangers check post on Hub River Road near Rais Goth while traveling from Quetta towards Karachi. The arrest was carried out on the basis of credible intelligence inputs, enabling a swift and coordinated interception by security personnel.
During the search operation, authorities recovered a cache of weapons and explosive materials from the suspect’s possession, including firearms, detonators, ball bearings, and other explosive components, indicating preparations for subversive activity.
Investigations reveal that the arrested individual joined the outlawed Sindhudesh Revolutionary Army in 2020 and operated under the network of commander Sajjad Shah, a key figure linked to multiple acts of sabotage and terrorist activity in Karachi and interior Sindh.
Officials stated that Sajjad Shah’s group has previously been involved in several violent incidents aimed at destabilising law and order in the region.
Security records indicate that the arrested terrorist was directly involved in a grenade attack carried out in June 2020 near a Rangers checkpoint close to Manzil Pump on the National Highway. The attack resulted in injuries to two civilians and caused partial damage to the Rangers post.
Authorities further confirmed that the suspect conducted reconnaissance activities in Gulshan-e-Hadeed in connection with a planned terrorist plot targeting Independence Day-related public installations, including surveillance of “Azadi stalls” ahead of August 14 events.
The arrested individual was listed in the CTD “Red Book” as a most-wanted terrorist due to his involvement in multiple subversive activities and his role in coordinating terrorist operations.
Preliminary investigations also suggest that the suspect maintained communication with SRA commander Sajjad Shah, including alleged foreign-based contacts, and was actively involved in planning further attacks on sensitive installations in Karachi along with other associates.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that the suspect, along with the recovered arms and explosive materials, has been handed over to the CTD Police for further legal proceedings and detailed interrogation.
Authorities believe the arrest marks a significant success in disrupting a network involved in planning targeted terrorist attacks and destabilisation efforts in Sindh. Further operations are underway to apprehend additional members of the group and dismantle their support infrastructure.
Security agencies reiterated their commitment to eliminating terrorism in all its forms and ensuring the protection of citizens and critical installations across the province.
