Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump have underscored the importance of cooperation, mutual respect, and strategic stability during high-level talks held in Beijing.
Addressing a lunch hosted in honor of President Trump, Xi Jinping said he was pleased to welcome the U.S. president, describing the visit as historic. He remarked that China’s development and the slogan “Make America Great Again” could progress in parallel, suggesting that both countries can pursue national development while maintaining constructive engagement.
Xi said he held detailed discussions with Trump on a wide range of issues, adding that bilateral relations serve the mutual interests of both nations. He stressed that the two countries should focus on cooperation rather than confrontation and noted that both sides had agreed to strengthen strategic ties.
He further said that China and the United States must support each other and share responsibility for the benefit of the world’s eight billion people, emphasizing the global importance of stable relations between the two major powers.
Speaking at the same event, President Donald Trump thanked the Chinese leadership for what he described as a historic level of hospitality. He said he had discussed all major issues with Xi Jinping and called his visit an honor, adding that the talks were highly positive and constructive.
Trump said U.S.-China relations were continuing to grow and expressed optimism about the possibility of building a future based on shared prosperity and cooperation.
In separate remarks, Xi Jinping stressed that the Taiwan issue remains the most important and sensitive matter in China–U.S. relations. He warned that “Taiwan independence and peace cannot coexist,” and said improper handling of the issue could lead to serious confrontation between the two countries.
He added that the Taiwan question, if mismanaged, could push relations toward dangerous instability, while also noting that trade conflicts produce no winners.
Xi said that China and the United States, as major global powers, share responsibility for maintaining global stability and should act as partners rather than rivals. He added that their shared interests outweigh their differences and that stable relations benefit the entire world.
He further noted that the world is currently facing serious challenges, including the Iran conflict and global supply chain disruptions, stressing the need for coordinated global leadership.
Trump, in his remarks, said the United States is interested in expanding trade with China and expressed gratitude for the warm reception in Beijing. He added that both sides would continue working together in the future and expressed optimism about bilateral cooperation moving forward.
