Clashes have erupted in North Waziristan’s Darpakhel area as local tribesmen confront terrorists following a jirga decision to expel them from the region.
According to local sources, tensions escalated after terrorists attempted to re-enter the area despite a recent jirga ruling that had ordered their expulsion. The jirga had been convened after reports emerged that terrorists were trying to use mosques for planning attacks and had begun extorting money from residents.
Defying the decision, terrorists reportedly returned, resumed extortion activities, and attempted to assert control over a mosque, triggering resistance from the local population.
The situation quickly escalated into armed engagements between tribesmen and terrorists in the Nadim Kotkai area, with heavy exchange of fire continuing intermittently.
Initial reports indicate that at least three local individuals have been martyred and several others injured in the fighting. Sources further claim that multiple terrorists have been neutralized during the clashes.
Local sources maintain that the violence is directly linked to the enforcement of the jirga’s decision and reflects growing resistance among tribes against terrorist presence in the area.
The situation remains tense, with sporadic firing continuing as both sides remain engaged.
