The United Nations has confirmed that the Afghanistan Coordination Group met this week in Istanbul, where international partners reaffirmed continued support for the Afghan people amid ongoing humanitarian and protection challenges in the country.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, April 30, the UN stated that participating partners emphasized the need to sustain assistance for vulnerable populations, including women, children, and returning refugees, as Afghanistan continues to face severe socio-economic pressures and restrictions affecting basic services.
The meeting is part of a UN-led coordination mechanism designed to align international humanitarian and development responses for Afghanistan. However, the UN did not disclose detailed information regarding the exact dates of the meeting or the identities of participating officials and organizations. Only limited visual material from the gathering was released.
Observers note that the continued focus on emergency support reflects persistent concerns within the international community regarding humanitarian access, governance constraints, and the situation of at-risk groups inside Afghanistan.
The Istanbul session follows a similar meeting held last year in the same city, where donors and international stakeholders discussed aid priorities and coordination frameworks aimed at addressing Afghanistan’s worsening humanitarian conditions.
The United Nations is expected to provide further updates on outcomes and follow-up mechanisms as part of its ongoing engagement with international partners
