Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson has strongly condemned and exposed the Afghan Taliban’s shelling of civilian areas near the Pakistan–Afghanistan international border, terming the attacks a violation of basic humanitarian norms.
The condemnation comes after at least five civilians, including four children and a woman, were injured when a mortar shell fired from Afghanistan landed on a residential house in the Angoor Adda border area of South Waziristan, local sources said.
According to reports, the mortar shell struck the homes of local residents Karim Khan and Rehmatullah, injuring five members of the civilian population.
The injured included children aged 13, 10, 8, and 3, along with a woman. All were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Wana for medical treatment.
Officials noted that this was not an isolated incident. Just days earlier, three civilians were injured in similar unprovoked firing from across the Afghan border in the same area.
Security sources said Afghan Taliban and affiliated Khawarij elements have repeatedly targeted civilian populations in pursuit of hostile objectives, raising serious concerns over the safety of border communities.
Following the attack, Pakistan Army responded by targeting the posts from where the mortar shell was allegedly fired, using both light and heavy weapons.
Sources said the retaliatory action forced Afghan Taliban personnel to abandon their positions and flee.
The latest escalation is expected to further heighten tensions along the already volatile Pakistan-Afghanistan border, where cross-border firing and security incidents have increased in recent days.
