Pakistan’s security agencies have carried out an intelligence-based operation resulting in the arrest of three individuals accused of involvement in espionage activities allegedly linked to a foreign intelligence network. According to security sources, the arrests were made following sustained surveillance and counter-intelligence efforts aimed at addressing both internal and external security threats. The detained individuals are reported to have been operating from different regions, including Narowal, Bahawalpur, and Neelum District of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the individuals were allegedly recruited through social media platforms and were later engaged in the collection and transfer of sensitive information. Officials claim that deceptive tactics, including financial inducements and online entrapment methods, were used to establish contact and operational influence.
Sources further indicated that financial transactions were conducted through multiple channels, including mobile payment systems, cryptocurrency wallets, and bank transfers. Investigators also allege that the accused maintained contact with individuals operating under foreign intelligence-linked online identities.
During interrogation, the suspects are reported to have admitted to their involvement and disclosed details regarding their communication channels and financial arrangements. These statements, according to officials, are part of the ongoing investigative record. Authorities confirmed that cases were registered under the Official Secrets Act, and legal proceedings have been completed, resulting in sentencing in accordance with applicable law.
Security analysts have described the case as part of a broader pattern of espionage-related activities targeting Pakistan through non-traditional intelligence methods, including social media-based recruitment and online psychological manipulation tactics. They further noted that similar cases in the past have highlighted the involvement of serving foreign intelligence operatives and networks attempting to gain access to sensitive information within Pakistan.
Defence experts have urged the public to exercise caution while using social media platforms, warning that hostile intelligence agencies may exploit digital spaces to target vulnerable individuals through financial incentives and deceptive online interactions.
Officials reiterated that Pakistan’s security institutions remain vigilant and fully committed to countering espionage activities and safeguarding national security against evolving hybrid threats.
