Pakistan Reaffirms Mediation Role as PM Meets Iranian Delegation Amid Islamabad Talks

Pakistan, US-Iran Talks in Islamabad, Iranian Delegation Meets PM Shehbaz Sharif

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to playing a sincere and constructive mediatory role for peace and stability in the region during a high-level meeting with an Iranian delegation in Islamabad.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the Iranian delegation was led by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of Iran’s Consultative Assembly, and was assisted by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

The meeting was attended on the Pakistani side by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

During the meeting, both sides discussed the prevailing global and regional security environment, with particular focus on ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation and conflict resolution.

The Prime Minister appreciated the Iranian delegation’s participation in the ongoing Islamabad talks, terming it a positive step toward dialogue and engagement at a critical juncture.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s stance, Shehbaz Sharif said the country would continue to play its role with sincerity as a mediator to promote peace and stability in the region. He emphasized the need to accelerate efforts toward achieving meaningful and result-oriented outcomes in the broader interest of regional and global peace.

The Prime Minister further underscored that Pakistan remains committed to facilitating constructive dialogue between stakeholders and would continue extending its good offices to ensure progress toward lasting stability.

He reiterated that Pakistan’s mediatory role is driven by goodwill and a desire to prevent further escalation, adding that the country will persist in its efforts to help achieve tangible results through diplomacy.

The meeting comes at a time when Islamabad is hosting high-stakes negotiations between the United States and Iran following a fragile ceasefire, with Pakistan actively positioning itself as a facilitator to bridge differences between the two sides and push for a durable and comprehensive peace framework.
