A significant decline in terror attacks has been recorded in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2026 compared to the previous two years, according to a latest report by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD).
The report states that a total of 380 terrorist incidents has been recorded so far this year, a sharp decrease from 1,233 incidents in 2025 and 746 in 2024, indicating a marked improvement in the overall security environment.
A breakdown of incidents for 2026 shows 77 quadcopter-related attacks, 165 firing incidents, 29 grenade attacks, and 62 improvised explosive device (IED) blasts. Additionally, 12 cases of kidnapping for ransom, three suicide attacks, and 32 targeted killings have been reported.
In comparison, 2025 witnessed significantly higher figures, including 80 quadcopter attacks, 687 firing incidents, 67 grenade attacks, 181 IED blasts, 87 kidnappings for ransom, 12 suicide attacks, and 119 cases of targeted killings.
Similarly, in 2024, there were 413 firing incidents, 85 grenade attacks, 122 IED explosions, 26 kidnappings for ransom, seven suicide attacks, and 93 targeted killings.
The downward trend highlights the impact of sustained counterterrorism efforts, including intelligence-based operations and enhanced coordination among security agencies. Despite the reduction, the persistence of diverse attack methods, particularly the use of quadcopters and IEDs, underscores the evolving tactics of terrorist networks.
Security officials maintain that continued operational pressure, vigilance, and technological adaptation remain essential to consolidating these gains and preventing any resurgence of terrorist activity in the province.
