Pakistan has strongly condemned a hostile drone provocation carried out by the Afghan Taliban, terming the incident a reckless and deliberate attempt to create fear among civilians and destabilize regional peace.
According to official security sources, on 13 March 2026, a small number of rudimentary drones were launched from Afghan territory toward Pakistan in an apparent effort to harass and intimidate the country’s civilian population. Pakistan’s air defence and counter-drone systems successfully intercepted the incoming drones using a combination of soft-kill and hard-kill countermeasures, preventing them from reaching their intended targets.
While the drones themselves were neutralized before causing direct damage, falling debris from the intercepted platforms unfortunately resulted in injuries to civilians. Two children sustained injuries in Quetta, while one civilian each was injured in Kohat and Rawalpindi. All injured individuals were promptly provided medical assistance, and authorities report that their conditions are stable.
Security officials emphasized that the attempted drone intrusion represents yet another example of the hostile and irresponsible behavior that continues to emanate from elements within Afghanistan under Taliban control. The attack, they noted, appears designed primarily to spread fear among the public and test Pakistan’s defensive preparedness, rather than achieve any meaningful tactical objective.
Officials further highlighted what they described as a troubling contradiction in the conduct of the Afghan Taliban. On the international stage, the group frequently portrays itself as a victim seeking global sympathy and legitimacy. However, such actions—including support for militant proxies and the use of drones targeting civilian areas reveal a pattern of conduct that undermines those claims and raises serious concerns about the intentions of the authorities currently ruling Afghanistan.
Pakistan’s leadership and its armed forces remain unequivocal in their assessment of the threat posed by terrorist groups operating from Afghan territory. The government reiterated that Pakistan’s core security concern continues to be the presence and activity of militant organizations using Afghan soil to launch attacks against Pakistan.
In response to these persistent threats, Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq, a comprehensive counter-terrorism campaign aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and protecting the country’s citizens. Officials stressed that the operation will continue with full determination until credible and verifiable action is taken by the Afghan Taliban to prevent their territory from being used for terrorism against Pakistan.
Authorities also praised the resilience and unity of the Pakistani public in the face of continued security challenges. They reaffirmed that the safety of civilians remains the foremost priority and that all necessary measures will continue to be taken to strengthen air defence, counter-drone capabilities, and intelligence coordination across the country.
Pakistan’s Armed Forces, together with national security institutions, remain steadfast in their commitment to eliminate terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. Officials stressed that any attempt to intimidate the Pakistani population or undermine national security will be met with firm, measured, and decisive responses.
