The first official session of the Gaza Board of Peace, established by U.S. President Donald Trump, commenced in Washington, with President Trump delivering the opening address. Diplomatic delegations from around the world attended the landmark meeting, which aims to oversee post-ceasefire administration and reconstruction efforts in Gaza. President Trump also posed for commemorative photographs with attendees.
Addressing the assembly, Trump highlighted the significance of the Board as a platform for sustainable peace and regional stability. He emphasized the need for continued international cooperation to ensure reconstruction, security, and humanitarian aid in Gaza, describing the forum as unmatched in its strength and purpose.
In his remarks, Trump lauded Pakistan’s leadership, particularly Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. He expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and called Field Marshal Munir “a great fighter and a distinguished personality,” acknowledging his role in facilitating ceasefires and saving countless lives. “Field Marshal Asim Munir is a great human being whose efforts have contributed to global peace,” Trump said.
The U.S. President also referenced his diplomatic interventions in international conflicts, claiming that under his leadership eight wars were halted, including long-standing disputes spanning over three decades. He noted that his efforts prevented escalation in the recent Pakistan-India tensions, where eleven jets were reportedly downed during the conflict. Trump stressed that navigating ceasefires between warring parties is complex, yet his interventions helped de-escalate the situation and pave the way for peace.
Prime Minister Sharif, attending on a special invitation, was recognized for his support of peace initiatives in the region. Trump described their working relationship as strengthened during conflict management efforts, affirming his personal appreciation for the Pakistani leader.
The session will feature short addresses from over a dozen international leaders, presenting strategies and recommendations for Gaza’s reconstruction, security stabilization, humanitarian assistance, and long-term development. U.S. officials described the Board of Peace as a structured international mechanism designed to ensure effective governance, aid distribution, and sustainable peace in Gaza following the recent hostilities.
