Pakistan Emerges as Key Diplomatic Bridge as US–Iran Talks Set to Resume in Istanbul

Pakistan has been formally invited to participate in the upcoming talks between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, scheduled to take place in Istanbul. The development has been confirmed by the Foreign Office, marking a significant diplomatic milestone and underscoring Pakistan’s constructive role in regional and international diplomacy.

The negotiations have been made possible through sustained backchannel diplomatic efforts led jointly by Pakistan and the Republic of Türkiye. These discreet engagements helped create the necessary conditions for renewed dialogue between Washington and Tehran after a prolonged period of diplomatic stalemate.

Pakistan will be represented at the talks by the Deputy Prime Minister, who will attend on behalf of the Government of Pakistan. Islamabad’s participation reflects its commitment to promoting dialogue, de-escalation, and peaceful resolution of disputes through diplomacy.

The US–Iran nuclear negotiations have remained suspended since May 2023, following the fifth round of talks. The resumption of engagement in Istanbul is being viewed as a potentially important step toward addressing outstanding issues related to the Iranian nuclear programme and broader regional stability.

Pakistan has consistently advocated for diplomatic engagement as the most effective means of resolving complex international challenges. Its facilitative role in enabling these talks aligns with its longstanding foreign policy objective of fostering peace, stability, and cooperation at both regional and global levels.

The Government of Pakistan remains hopeful that the renewed engagement between the United States and Iran will contribute positively to mutual understanding, reduce tensions, and advance prospects for a durable and peaceful outcome through sustained dialogue.
