Tirah Crisis Exposes Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Governance Failures: Opposition Leader

Dr. Ibadullah Khan, Leader of the Opposition in the Provincial Assembly, has strongly criticized the provincial government over its handling of the Tirah Valley situation, emphasizing that the displaced families are our own people and their struggles should not be politicized. Speaking to the media in District Khyber, Dr. Khan stressed that the issues faced by Tirah’s affected residents require urgent and serious attention rather than political slogans or delayed responses.

Dr. Khan condemned the provincial administration for treating every issue as a political tool while the public continues to face a severe shortage of basic services and security. He highlighted that he has repeatedly requested the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to convene a meeting of the Apex Committee to discuss security and administrative matters comprehensively, but no progress has been made to date.

According to Dr. Khan, the Chief Minister has failed to fulfill constitutional responsibilities, noting that in the past 100 days, the province’s chief executive was present in his office for barely ten days, leaving the province in the grip of a severe administrative crisis. He urged the Chief Minister to prioritize governance over street movements and public spectacles, emphasizing that true commitment to the province requires effective administration, not merely promises during elections.

On the Tirah issue specifically, Dr. Khan called for a politics-free approach, warning that public resources are being indiscriminately used for political rallies and movements, wasting millions of rupees of taxpayers’ money. He drew attention to the situation in Swat, where despite the complete closure of the area, the Chief Minister delivered political speeches without issuing concrete directives for road restoration or relief to the people.

Dr. Khan further highlighted that nearly 90 percent of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s districts remain insecure at night, leaving citizens feeling unsafe and vulnerable. He reiterated that urgent action is needed to address law and order, governance deficiencies, and the plight of Tirah’s affected families.

In conclusion, Dr. Ibadullah Khan demanded the immediate convening of the Apex Committee, calling for a consultative process involving all stakeholders to ensure practical, actionable decisions are made to restore governance, security, and essential services across the province.
