Police in Swat on Monday registered a first information report against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Member of the National Assembly Dr Amjad Ali over an alleged anti-state and provocative speech, police sources confirmed.

According to the FIR, Dr Amjad Ali is accused of delivering speeches against state institutions and the Constitution, allegedly inciting unrest and disturbing public order.

The case was registered at Kokarai Police Station on the complaint of Sajid Ali, a resident of Khwazakhela. The FIR includes around ten sections of the Pakistan Penal Code relating to sedition, incitement, and disruption of public peace.

Police sources said the complainant had approached the court under Section 22-A after initially failing to secure registration of the case, following which the court directed police to lodge the FIR.

Officials confirmed that the accused MNA, elected from NA-2 Swat, is also on the Exit Control List and was recently stopped from travelling abroad at an airport.

The development has drawn attention due to the fact that another PTI lawmaker from Swat, bearing the same name, has also faced controversy over similar remarks, raising the question of whether accountability will be applied uniformly as investigations proceed.

Police said further investigation is underway and that the matter will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law.
