In a major counterterrorism success, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Bannu Region, in coordination with Bannu Police, conducted a high-risk intelligence-based operation in the Mirakhel area, resulting in the killing of two hardened terrorists.
According to CTD officials, the deceased militants were identified as Sohail alias Sangari and Ismail alias Usman, both affiliated with the banned outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The terrorists were directly involved in attacks on police check posts at Sheikh Landak and Fateh Khel, incidents in which eight police constables were injured.
Authorities confirmed that the killed terrorists were also implicated in multiple attacks on security forces’ convoys, as well as an IED attack on the under-construction Rescue 1122 building, underscoring their role in a sustained campaign of violence in the region.
During the operation, CTD recovered two Kalashnikov rifles, a pistol, a large quantity of ammunition, a motorcycle, mobile phones, and an identification card linked to the banned TTP, further corroborating their militant affiliations.
CTD officials stated that while two additional terrorists managed to escape under the cover of darkness, search and follow-up operations are underway to track them down and dismantle the remaining network.
Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed, along with the Additional IGP CTD, commended the bravery and professionalism of the local police and CTD Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams for the successful operation.
“The courageous sons of this soil, standing shoulder to shoulder against terrorists, are the true strength and capital of our country,” the IGP said, reaffirming the police force’s unwavering resolve to safeguard lives and restore lasting peace.
The operation marks another decisive step in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police’s ongoing campaign to eliminate terrorism and protect the citizens of the province.
