Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, on Tuesday provided a detailed account of Pakistan’s counterterrorism landscape over the past year, highlighting the scale of operations, the sacrifices rendered by security forces, and the state’s unwavering resolve to eliminate terrorism.
Addressing a press conference, the DG ISPR stated that 2,597 terrorists were neutralized during the past year as a result of sustained and intelligence-driven counterterrorism operations conducted across the country. He emphasized that these achievements came at a significant cost, noting that 1,235 officers and soldiers embraced martyrdom while defending the nation against terrorist violence.
Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry further informed that 27 suicide attacks occurred during the year, underlining the evolving and complex nature of the threat. Of these incidents, 16 took place in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 10 in Balochistan, and one targeted the Islamabad Judicial Complex, reflecting the geographic spread of terrorist activity.
Providing additional statistical insight, the DG ISPR revealed that 3,811 terrorist incidents were reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa alone, raising a critical concern as nearly 80 percent of terrorist incidents are concentrated in the province. He described this trend as a key security challenge that continues to shape Pakistan’s counterterrorism strategy and operational focus.
Reaffirming the state’s position, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry stated that Pakistan remains fully committed to counterterrorism. “The state has taken important and effective measures to counter terrorism, and its stance on this issue is absolutely clear,” he said. He added that Pakistan’s efforts and sacrifices in the fight against terrorism have been recognized and appreciated by the international community.
The DG ISPR stressed that Pakistan’s counterterrorism campaign is guided by national consensus, institutional coordination, and a long-term vision for peace and stability. “This is a national struggle,” he said, adding that the state, security forces, and citizens remain united in their determination to eradicate terrorism in all its forms.
The press briefing concluded with a reaffirmation of Pakistan’s resolve to continue decisive action against terrorist networks, honor the sacrifices of its martyrs, and safeguard the country’s security and future.
