Pakistan Sounds Alarm at UN as Venezuela Tensions Threaten Global Peace

Pakistan has expressed grave concern over the evolving situation in Venezuela, warning that escalating actions and tensions pose a serious threat to regional and international peace and security.

Addressing a meeting of the United Nations Security Council, Pakistan’s Acting Permanent Representative, Ambassador Usman Jadoon, cautioned that the world is already grappling with multiple crises, and any further escalation particularly in the Caribbean region could generate new and dangerous risks to global stability.

“The international community cannot afford another flashpoint,” Ambassador Jadoon stated, noting that rising tensions and instability in Venezuela are deeply troubling at a time when global peace is already under severe strain.

Ambassador Jadoon emphasized that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable and sustainable path to resolving political disputes. He stressed that Pakistan views recent developments in Venezuela with deep apprehension and believes that confrontation or coercive measures will only worsen the situation.

He underscored that the United Nations Charter obliges all member states to refrain from the use or threat of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any country. The Charter, he noted, also mandates respect for sovereign equality, non-interference in internal affairs, and the peaceful settlement of international disputes.

The Pakistani envoy strongly warned that unilateral military actions constitute a blatant violation of these fundamental principles and of the doctrine of state sovereignty and sovereign immunity. Such actions, he said, set dangerous precedents that risk undermining the very foundations of the international legal order.

“History has repeatedly shown that instability breeds consequences that are unpredictable and uncontrollable, often lasting for years,” Ambassador Jadoon cautioned.

Pakistan reaffirmed its position that any lasting solution must be peaceful, inclusive, and based on full respect for the freely expressed will of the Venezuelan people, without any form of external interference.

At this critical juncture, Ambassador Jadoon stressed, the only responsible course forward is engagement through diplomacy, confidence-building, and genuine dialogue.

Pakistan also voiced its hope that Latin America and the Caribbean will continue to remain a Zone of Peace, free from confrontation and militarization, and will advance toward greater prosperity, stability, and regional cooperation for the benefit of their peoples.

In conclusion, Pakistan urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint, de-escalate tensions, avoid actions that could further aggravate the fragile situation, and sincerely pursue dialogue including good-faith mediation efforts to prevent further deterioration.
