Security forces have carried out a successful counterterrorism operation in Dera Bugti district of Pakistan’s Balochistan province, eliminating six militants belonging to a banned outfit, officials said on Saturday.
According to security sources, the operation was launched in the Dohi Wad area of Dera Bugti following credible intelligence reports about the presence of militants linked to the proscribed Baloch Republican Army (BRA). As troops moved in to secure the location, they came under fire, triggering a heavy exchange of gunfire between the two sides.
After a sustained clash, six militants were killed. No casualties among security personnel were reported. Officials said the bodies of the militants were taken into custody, while weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the site.
Following the operation, security forces cordoned off the surrounding area and conducted a thorough search operation to rule out the presence of any additional militants or hideouts. Authorities later declared the area cleared.
Officials described the operation as part of ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability in the region and to dismantle networks involved in militant and subversive activities. They reaffirmed that security forces remain committed to eliminating militancy and maintaining law and order, with the support and cooperation of local residents.
Balochistan has witnessed periodic security operations targeting banned groups accused of carrying out attacks on security forces and infrastructure. Authorities say such actions are aimed at ensuring public safety and strengthening the writ of the state across the province.
