Pakistan and Iran held the third meeting of their High Border Commission (HBC) in Tehran, underscoring their shared commitment to strengthening coordination on border management, security, and bilateral cooperation.
The session was jointly chaired by Pakistan’s Additional Secretary for Afghanistan and West Asia, Syed Ali Asad Gillani, and Iran’s Director General for International Legal Affairs, Abbas Bagherpour Ardakani. Senior officials from both sides participated in the discussions.
During the meeting, the two delegations conducted a comprehensive review of border-related matters, including cross-border security mechanisms, trade facilitation, and avenues for enhanced economic collaboration. Both sides acknowledged the importance of sustained engagement to address shared challenges and promote stability along the border regions.
Officials agreed to deepen institutional cooperation and maintain regular dialogue to improve coordination between relevant authorities. Emphasis was placed on adopting practical measures to strengthen border controls while supporting legitimate trade and people-to-people connectivity.
The meeting concluded with a mutual understanding to continue the High Border Commission process, with both sides confirming that the fourth session will be hosted by Pakistan in Islamabad next year.
The talks reflect ongoing efforts by Islamabad and Tehran to manage border issues through structured dialogue and reinforce their broader bilateral relationship.
