Armed Attack on Peace Committee Office in Bannu Leaves Seven Dead, One Injured

Seven people were killed and one was injured when armed militants of a proscribed organisation attacked the office of a local peace committee in the Hovidarderez area of Bannu. According to police, the assailants targeted the office of Qari Jaleel, head of the peace committee, in a coordinated assault that has raised serious concerns over the escalating security situation in the region.

Police officials confirmed that the victims of the attack include Danish, Kamran, Waliullah, Sufyan, Muhammad Niaz, Nauman and another individual identified as Sufyan. The injured person was shifted to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

A heavy contingent of police reached the crime scene shortly after the incident, cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the perpetrators. Authorities stated that an extensive investigation is underway to determine the motives behind the attack and identify the network responsible.

The incident marks a grim reminder of the persistent threats facing local peace committees, which have been on the frontline against militant activity in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Police have pledged to bring those involved to justice and restore a sense of security in the affected locality.
