The European Union’s unequivocal endorsement of Pakistan’s concerns regarding terrorist safe havens inside Afghanistan has further exposed, at the international level, the reality of Afghan Taliban’s inaction and the destructive role of the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The development marks a significant diplomatic achievement for Pakistan at a time when cross-border terrorism continues to threaten national and regional stability.
The EU Ambassador to Pakistan, Riimondas Karoblis, validated Pakistan’s longstanding position by stating that Islamabad’s demand for action against the TTP inside Afghanistan is not only justified but grounded in genuine and pressing security concerns. He noted that the European Union condemns terrorism in all its forms and recognises that Pakistan’s apprehensions are based on concrete facts rather than conjecture.
Ambassador Karoblis confirmed that militant groups operating from Afghan soil have been involved in recent terrorist attacks inside Pakistan, adding that the cross-border threat emanating from Afghanistan has cast a shadow over regional peace and stability. His remarks have reinforced Pakistan’s calls for decisive and verifiable measures against terror outfits using Afghan territory to orchestrate violence.
Pakistan has consistently presented, before the international community, evidence-based assessments demonstrating that the TTP referred to as Fitna al-Khawarij and the network identified as Fitna al-Hindustan continue to operate from Afghanistan under Indian patronage. Islamabad’s diplomatic position has now received a major boost as the European Union publicly acknowledges the credibility of Pakistan’s concerns and the legitimacy of its demands.
This important endorsement has strengthened global pressure on the Afghan authorities to dismantle terrorist sanctuaries, restore effective border security mechanisms, and prevent their territory from being used for attacks against Pakistan. The growing international recognition of Pakistan’s stance is seen as an encouraging step toward securing lasting stability in the region and eliminating cross-border terrorism.
Pakistan reiterates its commitment to regional peace and continues to urge all stakeholders to ensure that Afghan soil is not exploited by terrorist entities whose actions undermine collective security and threaten the peace of the broader international community.
