Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has underscored that extremist groups pose a threat not only to Afghanistan but to the wider world, while reaffirming Pakistan’s readiness to support the Afghan Taliban in taking action against banned organizations such as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Addressing the “Inter-Parliamentary Conference 2025” in Islamabad, the Prime Minister said it is a matter of pride for Pakistan to bring parliamentary speakers together on a platform focused on peace, security, and development. He emphasized that peace and stability are the foundation for sustainable progress.
Highlighting Pakistan’s own experiences this year, he noted that the country faced acts of aggression from the eastern front. “Our armed forces responded professionally and displayed remarkable performance on the battlefield, successfully thwarting the enemy’s designs. Pakistan remains committed to sincere efforts for regional peace,” he said.
The Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s longstanding commitment to national stability and defense, stating that the country has consistently demonstrated its resolve to protect its sovereignty at any cost. He highlighted the global significance of peace, noting that ongoing conflicts worldwide underscore its importance. “A stable and peaceful Afghanistan is essential for regional development,” he added.
On the issue of cross-border militancy, Prime Minister Sharif stated that terrorist groups operating from Afghanistan have also caused instability within Pakistan. “If the Afghan Taliban take action against banned organizations such as the TTP, Pakistan is ready to provide full cooperation. Those attempting terrorism from Afghanistan have already been dealt with firmly, and Pakistan will continue to take all necessary measures to protect its citizens,” he said.
Welcoming mediation efforts by Turkey and Qatar, the Prime Minister described the initiatives of friendly countries as commendable and emphasized that peace and stability are key drivers of societal development.
He concluded by stressing the government’s responsibility to transform the aspirations of the people into reality and expressed confidence that the conference’s discussions would further strengthen collective efforts toward regional stability and progress.
