At least five policemen were injured on Monday when unidentified assailants ambushed the convoy of North Waziristan District Police Officer (DPO) Waqar Ahmad Khan near Bannu, in one of the most serious recent attacks on law enforcement in the area.
According to DSP Mir Ali Qudratullah Khan Dawar, DPO Waqar Ahmad Khan was traveling from Miranshah to Bannu when his convoy was attacked by armed men lying in wait near the Mamashkhel area along the Bannu–Miranshah Road.
Police officials confirmed that the DPO narrowly escaped unhurt, while five members of his escort sustained injuries. The wounded officers were shifted to Bannu Hospital, where their condition was reported to be stable.
Following the incident, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a large-scale search operation to track down the attackers. Authorities said the assault reflects the persistent threat faced by law enforcement personnel engaged in counterterrorism and policing operations in the region.
