Several people, including three Frontier Corps (FC) officials, were killed on Tuesday in a powerful explosion near the FC Balochistan Headquarters on Zarghoon Road, followed by heavy gunfire, police confirmed. Besides that Five terrorist of Fitna-al-Khawarij were neutralised.
According to officials, the blast occurred at the corner of the FC installation, with its impact devastating the area. A rickshaw and a passenger coach bound for Pashin were also caught in the explosion, adding to the casualties and damage.
Police said the force of the blast shattered windows and doors of nearby buildings, while intense firing was reported in the immediate aftermath of the explosion. Rescue and law enforcement teams rushed to the scene, cordoning off the area as ambulances transported the injured to medical facilities. An emergency was declared in hospitals across Quetta to cope with the influx of victims.
Footage from the site showed thick plumes of smoke rising high above the city, while panic spread among residents. Authorities have not yet confirmed the nature of the blast, but bomb disposal units have been deployed to conduct a thorough clearance operation.
“The situation remains tense, and security forces are assessing the extent of the attack,” a police official stated, confirming the death toll and the loss of FC personnel.
The Zarghoon Road locality, housing key government and security installations, has repeatedly been targeted by militants in the past. Tuesday’s attack highlights the persistent security challenges in Balochistan’s provincial capital, which has remained a focal point of militant violence and insurgent activity for years.
