A little-known militant faction has taken responsibility for an attack that killed two Taliban fighters in western Afghanistan on Sunday evening. The Afghanistan People’s Liberation Movement (APLM) announced on Monday that its fighters struck Taliban forces in Guzara district, Herat province.

According to the group’s statement, the assault targeted Taliban members associated with the Al-Farooq Corps training centre, near the UN mission’s office in Herat. The APLM claimed it seized weapons and equipment during the attack.

Local sources confirmed the clashes in Guzara, though Taliban officials have yet to provide any public comments on the incident.

The Afghanistan People’s Liberation Movement is an emerging anti-Taliban group, with little known about its size or capabilities. The group was recently mentioned in a UN report, but details about its operations remain scarce.
